JR (artist)

One of the many artists that does public street art and is one of my favorites is JR. After watching a Ted Talk video on him in my 2D class, I was absolutely amazed by his work. I really enjoyed watching the video about how JR’s art helped change the world. For him to come up with the idea of doing this was brilliant. The reason as to why I chose art as my career field was that I can also use my art to impact the world and make people think a different way than what is expected. I think most people just view art just as a form of entertainment or that it’s supposed to be beautiful. However, it is so much more than that. Each person has their own story or their own purpose in creating art. There is no one way to create art because all types of art are beautiful and serve a purpose in their own way. There needs to be more people like JR to help the world view things differently and change their perspective. His technique would really help in times of crisis or war. Personally, I would love to be involved in this type of work because I would be a part of something that is changing the world in an effective way. I think it would be a really good idea if we even started the project here at St. Cloud or even think of another project that could impact the world. After watching this video about how art can be used to change the world and make a greater impact, I’ve learned that anybody, even I, can create art and start a revolution. Art can be anything we want it to be because it has no set definition. I think we can use this to our advantage and start making other people realize that art can also do anything, be anything, and be viewed as anything.
