Duffy was started by Joe Duffy, the founder and chairman of Duffy Design Group. Joe founded Duffy with a vision to build a new kind of branding and creative company—partnering with clients and other firms in all communication disciplines. His work has received many awards and recognition. Joe also has a book, Brand Apart, that was published in 2005. Duffy Design Group is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Looking at their about page, it looks like four people work at the company currently. Each person is in charge of a separate branch at the company. Teamwork at their company is very important. Having collaboration and communication is key in the efficiency of a company. Exploring the work that they do was really interesting because they have a variety of designs they have done for many well known companies. For example, Caribou Coffee, Mall of America, Diet Coke, Hershey's, and Minute Maid to name a few.
The Caribou Coffee case study was really interesting to look at in detail. The challenge was to make the Caribou Coffee packaging different from other coffee packages. They achieved this by really using the blue that they have in their branding. With the Caribou team, they made the decision to go bold. Pump up the vitality and energy of their playful, quirky personality and double-down on their passion for delivering premium coffee. The mountaintop and Alaskan Northernwoods symbolize the values of "Dream Big," "Seize the Day," and "Enjoy Life to the Fullest." I think that the Duffy Group made a smart choice in redesigning the Caribou Coffee bags and making them more bold and vibrant. This way, it is more eye catching to the viewer and gets people's attention.
Overall, I really liked exploring the Duffy Group's website and seeing what type of new designs are being created. I think it's really important to keep up with different design agencies to see what other ideas people are coming up with. I like that they have different case study examples of their previous work on their website so people can really see the process and their creative thinking. Their website was easy to navigate and provides a theme that sets the mood that they want viewers to feel about their company. "There are three basic principles that define our approach. We work organically finding insights, illuminating ideas and considering how design is expressed to deliver powerful solutions." I really like their mission statement as well because it helps me view what they are about and why they are designing. It would be a wonderful place to work and grow your skills as well.
